Product Description

Coo-Var Guard Coat is a two pack hygienic anti bacterial paint for walls and floors. The water based paint is ideal for areas such as schools, hospitals, clinics and commercial kitchens where a high level of hygiene is critical.

Guard Coat paint creates an antibacterial finish on walls and floors, preventing the spread of bacteria such as MRSA and E.coli. It achieves this using silver ion technology that lasts for the lifespan of the paint. This creates a much safer environment in areas with many vulnerable people where bacteria is likely to spread.

In addition to its antibacterial properties, Guard Coat also protects walls from surface damage. This includes scratches and scuffs from chairs, beds and other furniture. The hard wearing finish can also withstand heavy foot and vehicle traffic on indoor and outdoor floors.

This antibacterial paint can also be applied to currently painted walls and floors. This allows a hygienic finish to be achieved on a wall, floor or area without removing the existing paint.

In addition to the 5 standard colours, we can also supply RAL classic, BS 4800 and BS 381C colours. To order a non-standard colour, please select the ‘Special Colour’ option and add the colour code you would like (e.g. RAL 5015) in the notes section at the checkout. If you have any questions, such as if a specific colour is available, please contact our team.

When applying to porous, smooth or polished surfaces, Coo-Var High Performance Primer can be used as a primer coat to ensure the Guard Coat fully adheres to the surface.

Surface Preparation
All surfaces should be clean, dry, sound and free from contaminants. Concrete – power floated, granolithic and smooth surfaces should be roughened first to provide a good “key” for the paint. This can be done mechanically by abrading or blasting, or chemically using Coo-Var Acid Etch. These processes will have the advantage in addition to preparing the surface of also removing dirt and laitance. New concrete must be allowed to cure thoroughly which can take up to 3 months. Other surfaces have to be prepared and primed with the suitable primer for that substrate.

Existing painted surfaces – Surfaces should be cleaned, degreased and sanded to ensure an adequate “key” is produced. Remove all loose and flaking material and treat bare areas as new substrate and prepare accordingly.

Mixing Instructions
You should have two containers: one larger than the other and labelled Hardener. The other smaller one labelled Base. The contents of the pack marked Base are added to the contents of the larger pack marked Hardener and thoroughly mixed together, preferably by slow speed electric mixer. After mixing, add up to 500 mls clean tap water to the 5 kilo unit and mix again. This will make up one 5 kilo unit.

Application Conditions
As dictated by normal good painting practice. Do not apply if the temperature is likely to drop below 10°C during application or during the drying process. In confined spaces provide adequate ventilation during application and drying.

Apply by brush or shortpile roller.

Potlife:
2 to 4 hours @ 20ºC
Once the parts are mixed together, the material has to be used within this time.

Preceding Coat
Apply direct to ordinary stable concrete. Coo-Var High Performance Primer should be used where the surface is smooth, polished or porous.

Subsequent Coat
Coo-Var Guard-Coat (If two coats are required).

Estimated Coverage
6-10sqm per kg
