One product that can be used to etch a galvanised surface is mordant solution. This is a blue liquid that blackens the surface when applied, indicating that the treatment has been effective.

Etching primer is another product suitable for use on a galvanised surface. This also acts as a primer for metal, allowing the topcoat to be used directly over it.
