Apply our our Fast Drying Metal cladding primer for a harder wearing, longer lasting finish

Also available for brush application.

Preparation

Surface Condition: Ensure all surfaces are sound, clean, and dry. Remove all dust, oil, grease, and any loose or flaking material.

Cleaning: Thoroughly wash down the cladding to remove atmospheric salts or pollutants, which are common on exterior metal surfaces.

Rust Treatment: Any rusted areas should be wire-brushed back to a clean, bright metal finish. Prime these areas with an appropriate anti-corrosive primer, such as Palatine Fast Dry Metal Primer, before applying the topcoat.

Non-Ferrous Metals: For new galvanised steel or aluminium, pre-treat with Palatine Mordant Solution (T-Wash) or a suitable etching primer to ensure adhesion.

Existing Coatings: Lightly abrade (sand) any existing sound coatings to create a “key.” If the previous coating is unknown, perform a test patch (approx. 100mm x 100mm) to check for compatibility and to ensure the paint does not “lift” the old surface.

Testing: Confirm colour satisfaction by testing a small area before full-scale application.

Application

Mixing: Stir thoroughly for approximately 2 minutes before use. A drill stirrer is recommended to ensure the pigments are fully dispersed for a uniform satin finish.

Method: This product is specifically formulated for spray application (airless or conventional).

Thinning: Dilute the paint by approximately 10% by volume using Palatine Multi-Purpose Thinners to achieve the correct viscosity for spraying.

Note: Do NOT use White Spirit, as it is incompatible with this fast-drying formula.

Technique: Apply in thin, even passes. Avoid over-applying in a single coat to prevent runs or sagging on vertical cladding profiles.

Conditions: Apply in dry, warm conditions (minimum 10°C). Do not apply if the temperature is likely to fall below 10°C or if rain is imminent during the application and initial drying phase.

Please note: The colours on the product listings are only given as a guide. This is due to the fact that every computer monitor has a different capability to display colours. In addition, everyone sees these colours differently. Sample pots are available to order upon request. Always carry out a test patch (approximately 100x100mm) before full application to ensure compatibility with previous coatings and the substrate, and to ensure the colour achieved meets your requirements. Failure to do so will result in a product refund claim not being accepted.

Colours Available: BS 381C, BS4800 and Ral Classic range.

Pack Sizes: 2.5 Litre, 5 Litre, 20 Litre.

Coverage / Drying Times

Surface Dry: 15 minutes.

Overcoat: after 1 hour. Keep coated areas dry for a minimum of 24 hours following application. Please note, drying times will be extended at low temperatures. Do not apply when ambient temperature falls below 10ºC

Theoretical Coverage: 12 – 14m² per litre.

(Coverage rate can be affected by such variables as type and condition of substrate, type of application equipment and individual method of application.)

Thinning and Cleaning

Thinning: Use Multi Purpose Thinners. For spray application (airless or conventional), a dilution ratio of no more than 10% by volume is recommended.

Cleaning: Use Multi Purpose Thinners.

If using more than one batch of the same colour, intermix before use.
