Preparation

Surface Condition: Ensure all surfaces are sound, clean, dry, and free from oil, grease, dust, and mill scale. Proper degreasing and the removal of rust and scale are essential for successful adhesion.

Ferrous Metals: For bare iron or steel, it is recommended to apply Palatine Fast Dry Metal Primer first, especially in harsher environments, to provide a high-build, anti-corrosive base.

Non-Ferrous Metals: For surfaces such as aluminium or galvanised steel, pre-treat with Etching Primer or a suitable mordant solution.

Previously Painted Surfaces: Rub down existing gloss-painted surfaces with fine waterproof abrasive paper and rinse thoroughly to create a “key.”

Testing: Always carry out a test patch (minimum 100mm x 100mm) on unknown previously painted surfaces before full application to ensure compatibility.

Rust Removers: Avoid using phosphoric acid-based rust removers as they can leave an insulating film. If used, this film must be completely removed before painting.

Application

Mixing: Stir the paint thoroughly for approximately 2 minutes using a drill stirrer or a wooden batten (at least 25mm wide) to ensure a uniform consistency. Periodically stir during use to prevent settlement.

Methods:
* Spray: Ideal for airless or conventional spray application.
* Roller: Use a nylon, solvent-resistant roller.
* Brush: Recommended for small areas only; apply using rapid strokes.

Thinning:
* For spray application, dilute by no more than 10% by volume using Palatine Multi-Purpose Thinners (S063).
* Note: Do not use standard White Spirit, as it is a “weaker” solvent for this specific fast-drying formula.

Technique: Apply thin, even coats. If a high-build finish is required, successive applications can be made once the previous coat is dry.

Conditions: For best results, apply in warm (minimum 10°C) and dry conditions. Do not apply if the ambient temperature is below 10°C.

Colours Available: BS 381C, BS4800 and Ral Classic range.

Pack Sizes: 2.5 Litre, 5 Litre, 20 Litre.

Coverage / Drying Times

(Based on standard conditions of 20°C)

Overcoat: after 2 hours. Keep coated areas dry for a minimum of 24 hours following application. Please note, drying times will be extended at low temperatures. Do not apply when ambient temperature falls below 10ºC

Theoretical Coverage: 12 – 14m² per litre.

(Coverage rate can be affected by such variables as type and condition of substrate, type of application equipment and individual method of application.)

Thinning and Cleaning

Cleaning: Clean all equipment immediately after use with Palatine Multi Purpose Thinners.

If using more than one batch of the same colour, intermix before use.
