Preparation

Cleaning: Thoroughly wash down the cladding to remove any atmospheric salts or pollutants. This is especially important for exterior surfaces.
Rust Treatment: Any rusted areas should be wire-brushed back to a clean, bright metal finish and primed with an appropriate anti-corrosive primer, such as Palatine Fast Dry Metal Primer, before applying the topcoat.
Existing Coatings: If the cladding has been previously painted, ensure the existing coating is well-adhered. Lightly abrade (sand) the surface to create a “key” and ensure maximum adhesion.
New/Non-Ferrous Surfaces: For new galvanised steel or aluminium, pre-treat with Palatine Mordant Solution (T-Wash) or a suitable etching primer.
Testing: Always perform a test patch (approx. 100mm x 100mm) on a representative area to check for compatibility and colour satisfaction before proceeding with the full job.
Application
Mixing: Stir the paint thoroughly for at least 2 minutes using a wooden batten or drill stirrer to ensure a uniform satin finish and consistent colour.
Method: This specific version is formulated for application by brush or roller. Apply in even, thin coats to avoid runs or sags.
Technique: When using a brush, apply with long, smooth strokes. If using a roller, use a short-to-medium pile solvent-resistant sleeve.
Environmental Conditions: Apply in dry, warm conditions (minimum 10°C). Do not apply if there is a risk of rain or if the temperature is likely to drop below 10°C before the paint has dried.
Coating System: Two coats are generally recommended to provide the best aesthetic finish and long-term durability.
