Product Description

Palatine Professional log cabin paint is a protective, decorative top coat for exterior use on wood or previously prepared painted surfaces. A stylish and modern alternative to a wood stain effect, this paint will transform log cabins, timber lodges and outdoor buildings, with a range of colours available.

With high opacity, Palatine Professional log cabin paint provides a superb finish which is also touch dry in 3 hours. Because of its oil content, it offers a flexible, protective coating to external timber in a quick drying satin finish.

The many colour options allow for coordination with different surfaces which makes it a popular exterior wood paint for log cabins, timber lodges, chalets and summerhouses.  Not sure if satin is the finish for you? The British Coatings Federation provides some relevant information.

We recommend applying a clear wood preserver prior to application of this paint. This will aid in the preventing the paint from splitting or cracking once applied.

Log Cabin Paint Highlights:

  • Based on modified alkyd resin, (lead free) containing organic and inorganic pigments
  • Provides a durable long term protection, suitable for wood
  • Touch dry in 3 hours, providing excellent wet edge and flow out
  • Also available in Anthracite Grey RAL 7016
  • We can colour match to RAL Classic and BS 381C /Bs 4800 codes

If a matt finish is what you’re after, then Palatine Professional Shed and Fence Paint is also an excellent choice.

Preparation

Surface Condition: Surfaces must be clean, dry, and free from dirt, dust, grease, algae, and loose or flaking material.

Untreated/Bare Timber: It is highly recommended to apply a clear wood preserver (such as Barrettine Universal Wood Preserver) before painting. This helps prevent the wood from rotting and reduces the risk of the paint splitting or cracking as the timber moves.

Previously Painted Timber: Scrape away any loose material and sand down the remaining paint to ensure a smooth surface. Lightly sanding previously treated wood is essential for proper adhesion.

Imperfections:
* Knots: Seal with a knotting solution or aluminium wood primer.
* Nail Heads: Fill with an acrylic sealant.
* Splits/Cracks: Use a flexible wood filler.

Adhesion Hack: For improved adhesion of the first coat on timber, applying a thin layer of White Spirit via roller to the surface immediately before the first coat of paint can help the coating penetrate deeper into the wood grain.

Application

Mixing: Stir thoroughly for approximately 2 minutes before use. Use a drill stirrer or a wooden batten at least 25mm wide.

Methods: Apply by brush, short-to-medium pile roller (for smooth surfaces), long pile roller (for textured surfaces), or spray.

Coating System:
* Two coats are recommended for optimal protection and durability.
* Apply the first coat evenly. Highly absorbent or weathered surfaces may require an additional coat.
* Once the first coat is dry, apply the second coat at full strength.

Inter-coat Adhesion: If more than 24 hours elapse between coats, the first coat should be lightly sanded (abraded) to ensure the second coat bonds correctly.

Spray Application: If using airless or conventional spray, you can dilute the paint by no more than 10% with Palatine White Spirit.

Conditions: Apply in warm (minimum 10°C), dry conditions. Avoid application if rain is imminent or if the temperature is likely to fall below 10°C during the drying process.

Colours Available: 10 Standard, BS 381C, BS4800 and Ral Classic range.

3 reviews for Palatine Professional Log Cabin Paint

  1. Shaun Taylor (verified owner)

First time have used this paint, so used it on a pine wooden box before I attempted the big log cabin. The product went on really easy and came out looking like a very professional job. As long as you adhere to the instructions you should have no trouble at all. Would recommend. Watch this space when the log cabin gets its 2 coats of paint, can’t wait.

  2. John Ainley (verified owner)

    Thank you.
The paint was excellent and I am more than happy with the results.

  3. Colin Clegg (verified owner)

Fantastic paint. Ideal for the job of repainting the summerhouse. I bought 5 litres of anthracite grey to cover green. It was very easy to use and covered the old colour really well, but i will give it a second coat.
Great service and a quality product.
