Floor Paint For Wood is an alkyd paint designed for use on interior wooden floors. It provides a decorative satin finish to the floor while protecting it from the everyday wear of foot traffic. Our wood floor paint is an ideal way to revitalise your wooden flooring or update the design of a room without having to pay out for new flooring.
Palatine Paints is a manufacturer of paints, not just a supplier. This means we have full knowledge of the paint and it’s properties and can answer any questions you may have before ordering to ensure our wooden floor paint suits your needs.
Our range of stock colours provide a number of different applications and looks. These include neutral greys and greens, as well as more vibrant choices such as Sunflower Yellow and Steampunk Skirt Blue.
In addition to these colours, we can also tint custom colours to match your vision for your wooden flooring. For more information on this service, please contact us through web chat, phone or email.
If you’re looking for a paint for your wooden decking, we also supply a transparent finish decking oil, available in a range of colours that will allow the grain to be seen through the finish for a more natural look.
Wood Floor Paint is also available in white and black in addition to the colours shown here.
This floor paint is not suitable for use on laminate flooring.
For full technical, safety and application details, please see the data sheets.
Compatibility: Not suitable for laminate flooring. Only use on real timber or wooden floorboards.
Previously Coated Surfaces: Floors that have been previously coated, waxed, polished, or oiled must be cleaned and fully sanded back to bare wood using professional floor sanding equipment. Adhesion cannot be guaranteed if previous coatings are not properly removed.
Surface Defects: Repair any open joints or surface defects using a suitable wood filler.
Resinous Deposits: Remove sticky resin or sap with a scraper. Degrease the area by wiping with a clean, lint-free cloth dampened with methylated spirits. Allow the solvent to evaporate fully before painting.
Cleanliness: Ensure the floor is completely free of dust and debris after sanding.
Stirring: Use a drill stirrer or a wooden baton (at least 2 inches wide). Mix thoroughly before use.
During Use: Continue to stir periodically during application to prevent the product from thickening or settling.
Method: Apply by brush, roller, or spray. Work the paint well into the wood surface.
Technique: Avoid applying the paint too thickly, as this can delay drying times.
Coats:
* First Coat (Bare Wood): Dilute by 5–10% with White Spirit to improve penetration.
* Subsequent Coats: Apply at full strength. Usually, 2 coats are sufficient.
Conditions: Do not apply when the ambient temperature is below 10°C.
Colours Available: 10 Standard, BS 381C, BS 4800 and RAL Classic range.
Pack Sizes: 2.5 Litre, 5 Litre.
Surface Dry: 4 – 6 hours
Hard Dry: 24 hours
Overcoat: after 16 – 24 hours. Keep coated areas dry for a minimum of 24 hours following application. Please note, drying times will be extended at low temperatures. Do not apply when ambient temperature falls below 10ºC.
Theoretical Coverage: 10 – 12m² per litre.
(Coverage rate can be affected by such variables as type and condition of substrate, type of application equipment and individual method of application.)
Thinning: Dilute 5-10% with White Spirit (specifically for the first coat on bare wood).
Cleaning: Clean all equipment immediately after use with White Spirit.
If using more than one batch of the same colour, intermix before use.
