Our fast drying, semi-gloss paint is a durable self-priming paint but is also suitable for overcoating Palatine Fast Dry Metal Primer for additional anti-corrosive protection.
£26.07 – £531.81Price range: £26.07 through £531.81
Palatine Fast Dry Semi Gloss paint is a quick drying, solvent borne, semi-gloss finish, industrial strength top coat. It provides a tough, rust inhibiting, decorative finish and is ideal for use on steel work, railings, skips, containers and agricultural plant/machinery. Use as a direct to metal, fast drying, semi gloss coating for an excellent, high build, protective finish.
While Fast Dry Semi Gloss paint is self-priming, for additional anti-corrosive protection use Palatine Fast Dry Metal Primer. The drying properties make this an ideal paint for situations requiring quick, one day maintenance.
Industrial semi-gloss, fast drying paint – self-priming long term protection to substrates such as: carbon steel; stainless steel; cast iron; wrought Iron and wood. Based on a short oil alkyd resin and containing modified binding pigments, providing a decorative sustainable finish.
Please note: The colours shown here are only a guide. This is due to the fact that every computer monitor has a different capability to display colours. In addition, everyone sees these colours differently.

General: Ensure the surface is clean, dry, and free from dust, oil, grease, old coatings, and other contaminants.
Ferrous Metals: Suitable for direct application to carbon steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and wrought iron.
Previous Coatings: * Rub down previously gloss-painted surfaces with fine waterproof abrasive paper and rinse thoroughly.
* A test area on unknown previously painted surfaces must be carried out prior to full application.
Rust Removers: Avoid using phosphoric acid-based rust removers as they leave an insulating film. If used, the film must be removed before painting.
Non-Ferrous Metals: For aluminum or galvanized surfaces, use Palatine Fast Dry Etching Primer first.
Anti-Corrosive Boost: While self-priming, for maximum protection, apply over Palatine Fast Dry Metal Primer.
Stirring: Mix thoroughly for approximately 2 minutes using a drill stirrer or a wooden baton (at least 25mm wide).
Method:
* Spray: Ideal for airless or conventional spray. Dilute by no more than 10% with Palatine Multi-Purpose Thinners.
* Roller: Use a nylon, solvent-resistant roller.
* Brush: Recommended for small areas only; apply with rapid strokes.
Conditions: Best results are obtained in warm (minimum 10°C) and dry conditions. Do not apply if the temperature is below 10°C.
Colours Available: BS 381C, BS4800 and Ral Classic range.
Pack Sizes: 2.5 Litre, 5 Litre, 20 Litre.
Surface Dry: 15 minutes.
Overcoat: after 1 hour. Keep coated areas dry for a minimum of 24 hours following application. Please note, drying times will be extended at low temperatures. Do not apply when ambient temperature falls below 10ºC.
Theoretical Coverage: 12 – 14m² per litre.
(Coverage rate can be affected by such variables as type and condition of substrate, type of application equipment and individual method of application.)
Thinning: Dilute 5-10% with Palatine Multi Purpose Thinners.
Cleaning: Clean all equipment immediately after use with Palatine Multi Purpose Thinners.
If using more than one batch of the same colour, intermix before use.
Q: What is Fast Dry Semi-Gloss Paint used for?
A: It’s a quick-drying, solvent-borne industrial top coat that gives a tough, rust-inhibiting, semi-gloss decorative finish. It’s ideal for steelwork, railings, skips, containers, and agricultural plant/machinery.
Q: Do I need a primer, or is it self-priming?
A: It’s self-priming and can be used as a direct-to-metal coating. For extra anti-corrosive protection, overcoat Palatine Fast Dry Metal Primer first.
Q: What surfaces can it go on?
A: It’s designed for long-term protection on substrates such as carbon steel, stainless steel, cast iron, wrought iron, and wood (with correct preparation).
Q: How fast does it dry and when can I recoat?
A: Typical drying times are surface dry in 15 minutes and recoatable after 1 hour. Keep coated areas dry for at least 24 hours after application. Drying will be slower in colder conditions—don’t apply below 10°C.
Q: What happens if I use standard White Spirit instead of Multi-Purpose Thinners?
A: This is a common mistake. Standard white spirit is a “weaker” solvent. Using it with this fast-dry industrial paint can cause the paint to “curdle” in the tin or result in a finish that stays soft or tacky for days. Always stick to the recommended Palatine Multi-Purpose Thinners.
