2K Direct To Metal Paint including Activator, a two pack coating containing special anti corrosive inhibitors providing very high anticorrosion protection.
Direct to Metal Paint (DTM) has superb adhesion, so is an ideal coating when applied as a direct to galvanised metal paint.
Please note this is a 2 pack system
£83.13 – £115.08Price range: £83.13 through £115.08 (€96.43)
2K Direct to Metal Paint including Activator, is an acrylic high quality two pack coating. 2K DTM Paint is Ideal for use on galvanised sheets, light alloy parts, steel and industrial fabrication.
As a result this is perfect for industrial and commercials applications. 2K DTM Paint is an abrasion resistant coating perfect for commercial use on trailers and chassis (bodywork)
If you are looking for a direct to galvanised metal paint, the 2K DTM Paint is ideal because of its excellent adhesion and no need for a separate primer. Making this an ideal coating to keep within budgets and time scales.
Available in gloss or matt finish and a wide range of colours including RAL Classic and British Standard colour codes.
Please note: The colours shown are a guide. This is due to the fact that every computer monitor has a different capability to display colours. In addition, everyone sees these colours differently.
Proper surface preparation is essential to ensure the anti-corrosive inhibitors bond correctly to the metal.
De-greasing: All surfaces must be completely free of grease, oils, and fats. Use a industrial-strength degreaser; any residual oil will cause the acrylic to “fish-eye” or peel.
Rust Removal: While the paint is anti-corrosive, any loose or “flaking” rust must be mechanically removed back to a sound surface.
Galvanised Surfaces: Specifically check for “white rust” (zinc oxidation). This must be removed via thorough wire brushing. This paint is designed to stick to galvanised metal without a mordant solution (T-Wash), provided the surface is clean.
Light Alloys: Because alloys are non-porous, you must lightly abrade the surface with a fine-grit sandpaper or scotch-brite pad to create a mechanical key for the paint to grip.
Batch Consistency: If your project requires more than one 4.5L unit, “box” the paints (mix the base components of all tins together) before adding activator to ensure a uniform color across the entire job.
This is a two-pack (2K) system. You must mix the paint with the supplied activator in the correct ratio before use.
Mechanical Mixing: Do not stir by hand. Use a drill-mounted paddle stirrer to mix the base for 2 minutes before adding the activator. This ensures the anti-corrosive settled at the bottom is fully incorporated.
Mixing Ratios:
* With UHS Hardener (ACTHS): Mix 8 parts paint to 1 part activator.
The EU limit value for this product (product category: 11B.d) in ready to use form is max. 420 g/litre of VOC. The VOC content of this product in ready to use form is max. 420 g/litre.
* With HS Hardener (ACTEC Fast Dry): Mix 4 parts paint to 1 part activator.
Thinning: After mixing with the activator, dilute by 5-10% using T51 Thinners to reach the required application viscosity. Standard white spirit or cellulose thinners are incompatible with 2K Acrylic and will ruin the finish.
Pot Life: Once mixed, the product has a pot life of 4 hours at 20°C. Do not mix more paint than can be used within this window.
Spray Technique:
* Conventional Spray: Apply a light “tack coat” first, wait 10 minutes, then follow with a full wet coat.
* Airless Spray: Ensure a consistent overlap to achieve an even film thickness.
The 96-Hour Rule: If you miss the overcoating window (up to 96 hours), the paint will have “closed up” and become too hard for a second coat to stick. You must lightly sand the entire surface to a matte finish before applying more paint.
Equipment Care: 2K paint will harden inside your spray gun even if it’s submerged in thinner. Flush your lines and gun thoroughly with solvent immediately after your session is finished.
Coats: 1-2 coats are recommended to achieve the desired film thickness (typically 50 microns dry film thickness per coat).
Conditions: For best results, apply in warm (minimum 10°C) and dry conditions.
Clean Up: Clean all spray equipment immediately after use using an appropriate solvent cleaner, as the paint cannot be removed easily once it begins to cure.

Q: What is 2K Acrylic Direct to Metal (DTM) Paint?
A: It’s a two-pack (2K) acrylic DTM coating supplied with activator/hardener, formulated with special anti-corrosive inhibitors to provide very high anti-corrosion protection and a tough finish for demanding use.
Q: What substrates can I use it on?
A: It’s ideal for galvanised sheets, light alloy parts, steel, and industrial fabrication—including steel fabrications, trailers, and vehicle chassis, plus galvanised steel and light alloy surfaces.
Q: Do I need a separate primer first?
A: Usually no. This product is designed as a direct-to-metal system with excellent adhesion, including as a direct-to-galvanised metal paint, helping save time and keep jobs on budget.
Q: How do I mix 2K Acrylic DTM Paint?
A: Mix thoroughly (around 2 minutes using a drill stirrer), then mix to the specified ratio:
UHS Hardener (ACTHS): 8 parts paint : 1 part ACTHS, then dilute 5–10% with T51 thinners
HS Hardener (ACTEC Fast dry, non-compliant): 4 parts paint : 1 part ACTEC, then dilute 5–10% with T51 thinners
Once mixed, the pot life is around 4 hours at 20°C.
A: What are the drying times, overcoating window, and coverage?
A: At 20°C: flash off 10 mins, dust free 20–30 mins, through dry 24 hrs, full cure 14 days. You can overcoat from 4 hours up to 96 hours—after that, sanding is required. Coverage is approximately 9 m² per litre. Best results are in warm, dry conditions (minimum 10°C).
