Carbosil Bitumen Aluminium Solar Reflective Paint for over coating bitumen based surfaces such as roofing felt and substrates including asbestos, brick, wood and metal. It protects surfaces from heat and UV light damage so makes a practical, decorative and solar reflective coating. Carbosil will enhance the lifespan of bitumen-type roofing materials.
Carbosil gives a flexible, heat resistant and solar reflecting coating, with outstanding weather resistance and durability. It also used for general applications on steel work and timber (where there is no handling of the painted object).
Our bitumen aluminium is ideal for roofing, storage tanks, silos and stable felt as well as caravans and mobile homes. Because it reflects UV light and heat, it can also help reduce fungal growth. Buildings without insulation such as stables, industrial/commercial buildings, garages and animal housing can become extremely warm under the heat of the sun…even here in the UK.
Carbosil solar reflective roof paint, which reflects the rays of the sun will help to reduce the internal temperature making conditions safer and comfortable. Similarly, painting metal silos and storage tanks with Carbosil Bitumen Aluminium Solar Reflective Paint can help keep contents cooler.
Often used on motor homes and caravan roofs and as a solar paint for flat roofs, our solar reflective coating helps keep interiors cool, which results in reduced energy costs on cooling systems.
Not only do solar rays affect the internal temperature, they also cause damage to the surface. Exposure to the sun’s heat and UV rays dries out a bituminous surface making it brittle and prone to cracking. Coating with our solar reflective paint will help to prevent this, improving the longevity of the building or structure.
We are a proud member of the British Coatings Federation.

General Surface Condition: Surfaces must be clean, dry, and free from loose or flaking material, oil, grease, mill scale, and rust.
Timber & Previously Painted Surfaces: Must be abraded to provide a “key” for adhesion.
Ferrous Metals: Best achieved by grit blasting, though thorough wire brushing may be sufficient. Avoid phosphoric acid-based rust removers as they leave an insulating film.
Felt Roofing: Ensure felt is firmly fixed (e.g., with Carbobond Felt Adhesive).
Bitumen Surfaces: Old, cracked bitumen should be removed and replaced (e.g., with Carboblack Bitumen) before coating.
Health & Safety: Wear a suitable face mask if dry sanding. Take special precautions with pre-1960s paint surfaces as they may contain lead.
Environmental Conditions: Best results are obtained in warm (minimum 10°C), dry conditions.
Mixing: Mix thoroughly for approximately 2 minutes using a drill stirrer or a wooden batten at least 25mm wide.
Technique: Apply an even coat using a brush or a short pile (solvent-resistant) roller.
Layering: A minimum of two coats is recommended to prolong the life and performance of the coating.
Suitable Substrates: Bitumen, felt, asphalt, asbestos, brick, wood, and metal (steelwork).
Pack Sizes: 2.5 Litre, 5 Litre, 25 Litre.
(Based on standard conditions of 20°C)
Surface Dry: 3 hours
Hard Dry: 8 hours
Overcoat: after 24 hours. Keep coated areas dry for a minimum of 24 hours following application. Please note, drying times will be extended at low temperatures. Do not apply when ambient temperature falls below 10ºC
Theoretical Coverage: 13 – 15m² per litre.
(Coverage rate can be affected by such variables as type and condition of substrate, type of application equipment and individual method of application.)
Thinning: Supplied at application viscosity. Does not require thinning.
Cleaning: Use Palatine White Spirit.
If using more than one batch of the same colour, intermix before use.
Q: What is Bitumen Aluminium Solar Reflective Paint used for?
A:This specialist roof coating is designed to reflect sunlight and reduce heat build-up. Ideal for flat roofs, sheds, garages, and industrial buildings, it helps protect surfaces from UV damage while improving energy efficiency
A: Q: Can this aluminium roof paint be applied to different surfaces?
Yes, it’s suitable for bitumen, felt, asphalt, concrete, metal, and wood. Perfect for use on stables, caravans, storage tanks, and more
Q: How does solar reflective paint help?
A: By reflecting solar radiation, this coating reduces internal temperatures cutting down on cooling costs and improving comfort in warmer months.
Q:Is this paint weather resistant and UV protective?
A: Absolutely. It offers excellent waterproofing and UV protection, helping extend the life of roofing materials in the UK’s variable climate.
Q: How should I apply Solar Reflective Paint?
A: Apply two coats with a brush or solvent resistant roller on a clean, dry surface. Allow 12 hours between coats. Coverage is approx. 12–14m² per litre
