General Surface Condition: Ensure the surface is clean, dry, and sound.
Previously Painted Surfaces: Ensure existing paint is non-flaking. Abrade the surface (preferably by mechanical abrasion) to provide a “key” and maximize adhesion.
Concrete:
* New Concrete: Must be allowed to dry for at least 4 weeks in summer or 6 weeks in winter before painting.
* Porous Concrete: Apply a coat of Pliocem Concrete Sealer first. Alternatively, thin the first coat of the floor paint with 10–15% White Spirit, followed by one neat coat.
Wood: Apply a clear universal wood preservative to untreated timber before painting.
Metal: Prime the surface with Palatine Anti-Corrosive Metal Primer.
Mixing: Stir thoroughly for at least 2 minutes using a drill stirrer or a 2-inch wide wooden baton. Continue to stir during application to maintain the consistency of the anti-slip additive and prevent settling.
Conditions: For best results, apply in warm (minimum 10°C) and dry conditions.
Method: Apply using a brush or a short-to-medium pile roller.
Thickness: Avoid applying too thickly, as this will significantly delay drying times.
Recoating:
* Apply the second coat once the first is dry, typically after 12–24 hours.
* The second coat must be applied within 5 days. If more than 5 days pass, the first coat must be lightly abraded before the second is applied.
Curing: Touch dry in 3 hours, hard dry in 24 hours. Keep the area dry for at least 24 hours after application.
Maintenance: Avoid power washing the surface for at least 7 days after application.
For full technical, safety and application details, please see the data sheets.
Colours Available: Black, White, Clear, Light Grey, Mid Grey, Admiralty Grey, Dark Green, Light Brunswick Green, Mid Blue, Safety Red, Safety Yellow, and Tile Red. Custom colour matching (RAL, BS, and NCS) is also available upon request.
Pack Sizes: 1 Litre, 2.5 Litre, and 5 Litre.
(Based on standard conditions of 20°C)
Surface Dry: 3 hours (Touch dry).
Hard Dry: 24 hours.
Overcoat: 12 – 24 hours (Must be applied within 5 days; if longer, light abrasion is required).
Theoretical Coverage: 8 – 10m² per litre.
Thinning: For a more economical approach on porous surfaces, thin the first coat with 10-15% Palatine White Spirit. Otherwise, two undiluted coats are recommended for maximum performance.
Cleaning: Clean all brushes, rollers, and application equipment immediately after use with Palatine White Spirit.
Q: Can Carbogrip Anti Slip Paint be used on both new and previously painted wooden surfaces?
A: Yes, Carbogrip is suitable for both new and previously painted wood. Ensure the surface is clean, dry, and lightly abraded for best adhesion. Remove any loose paint before application.
Q: How does the “anti-slip” feature work?
A: The paint contains specially controlled texturing agents (micronized waxes) that are dispersed throughout the liquid. Once dry, these create a uniform, roughened surface that increases traction for footwear.
Q: Is Carbogrip Anti Slip Paint safe for pets and children once dry?
A: Yes, once fully cured, Carbogrip Anti Slip Paint is safe for areas accessed by pets and children. Ensure the coating is completely dry before allowing foot traffic or play to prevent any risk of slipping or marking.
Q: Can I use this on newly laid concrete?
A: No. New concrete should be allowed to dry for at least four weeks in the summer (or six weeks in the winter) before painting to ensure the moisture levels are low enough for the paint to bond.
Q: Is it resistant to sunlight and rain?
A: Yes, it is a solvent-borne coating designed to be weather-resistant and UV-stable, meaning it will protect your surfaces and maintain its colour even when exposed to sunlight and rain.
