Use Palatine Anti Mould Paint on interior walls and ceilings where condensation and humidity are common. It’s designed to help resist mould and mildew growth while leaving a clean, smooth finish that’s easy to wipe down.
Key benefits
Palatine Anti Mould Paint has been independently tested by a UK registered laboratory and demonstrated excellent resistance to fungal growth under high humidity conditions.

If you’re unsure whether this is right for your surface (fresh plaster, previously painted walls, stained areas, etc.), contact the team and we’ll point you to the best prep and system.
Mould Removal: Before painting, you must remove all existing mould and mildew from the surface. The paint is designed to inhibit future growth, not kill existing spores.
Surface Cleaning: Ensure the walls or ceilings are clean, dry, and free from grease, dust, or any loose material.
Substrate Check: This paint is suitable for plaster, concrete, drywall, and previously painted surfaces. Ensure the surface is structurally sound and properly primed if you are working on a new or highly porous material.
Ventilation: Plan for good ventilation during the application and drying process, especially in traditionally damp areas like bathrooms or basements.
Mixing: If you have multiple tins of the same colour, intermix them in a larger container before starting to ensure a perfectly consistent shade across the entire area.
Coating: Apply at least two coats for optimal coverage and to ensure the fungal-resistant additives provide a complete protective barrier.
Technique: Apply evenly using a brush or roller.
Spray Application: If using an airless spray, you may thin the paint with clean water (up to 10%) if necessary to achieve the correct flow. Thinning is generally not required for brush or roller work.
Drying Process: Allow the first coat to dry completely before applying the second. The paint’s full durability and moisture resistance are only reached once it has fully cured.
Protection: Keep the freshly painted surface free from excessive moisture or steam during the initial curing phase to ensure the finish sets correctly.
Colours Available: Pure White, Magnolia, and Clear. Also available in a wide range of RAL, British Standard (BS), and NCS colours upon request.
Pack Sizes: 1 Litre, 2.5 Litre, 5 Litre, and 10 Litre.
(Based on standard conditions of 20°C)
Surface Dry: 2 – 4 hours (Touch dry).
Hard Dry: 24 hours (Full durability and moisture resistance are reached after the paint has fully cured).
Overcoat: 6 – 8 hours.
Theoretical Coverage: Approximately 10m² – 12m² per litre (depending on surface porosity and application method).
Thinning: Not usually required for brush or roller application. If thinning is necessary (e.g., for airless spray application), use no more than 10% clean water.
Cleaning: Clean all tools and equipment immediately after use with warm, soapy water.
If using more than one batch of the same colour, intermix before use.
Q: How does Palatine Anti-Mould Paint protect against mould and mildew?
A: Palatine’s Anti-Mould Paint contains biocidal/mildew-resistant additives that inhibit fungal growth on the paint surface. It prevents the formation of mould and mildew even in damp or humid environments such as bathrooms, basements, kitchens or laundry rooms.
Q: How many coats should I apply, and how long is the drying time?
A: We recommend two coats for optimal coverage and performance. After applying the first coat, allow it to dry fully before applying the second. Under normal room conditions (adequate ventilation, moderate temperature), it typically becomes touch dry within 2–4 hours, and is ready for re-coating in 6–8 hours.
Q: On which surfaces can I use Anti-Mould Paint?
A: This paint is suitable for walls and ceilings in high-humidity areas. Before application, surfaces should be cleaned, free of existing mould, and properly primed if necessary. It can be used on plaster, concrete, drywall, and previously painted surfaces (if properly prepared).
Q: Can I tint or colour match the Anti-Mould Paint?
A: Yes — Palatine offers tinting and colour matching (RAL, BS, NCS, etc.) for the Anti-Mould Paint line. Nevertheless, be aware that tinted or bespoke versions are non-returnable, since they are manufactured to individual specifications.
Q: Is the paint safe, low-VOC, and easy to clean?
A: Yes. Our Anti-Mould Paint is designed to be low in VOCs (volatile organic compounds) to promote better indoor air quality. Once cured, its finish is washable and durable, allowing for gentle cleaning without damaging the protective layer. It’s suitable for family bathrooms and humid areas — always ensure good ventilation while applying.
strong>Q: Does anti-mould paint kill existing mould?
A: No. Our Anti-Mould Paint helps prevent regrowth; you must remove/treat existing mould first.
Q: Can I use it on bathroom ceilings?
A: Yes. Our Anti-Mould Paint will perform at it’s best in this environment.
Q: How do I safely remove mould before painting?
A: For general guidance, see UK Gov (damp & mould health risks): Understanding and addressing the health risks of damp and mould in the home (opens in a new tab)
