Product Description

Our Universal Satin Multi Surface Paint is an alkyd satin coating available in black, white, anthracite grey and more. It provides a durable finish to almost any prepared surface, including wood, metal, plastic, uPVC, MDF and tiles. It features increased adhesion strength to allow application on materials that are otherwise difficult to paint. This is a solvent based alternative to the many water based multi surface paints available.

Universal Satin provides a long lasting and weather resistant finish, making it ideal for use in outdoor environments as well as indoor surfaces. The solvent based nature of the paint also allows it to overcoat most existing paints or coatings that may be on a surface.

Palatine Paints is a manufacturer of paints rather than simply a supplier. Because of this, we are able to provide in depth technical information on our Universal Satin, as well as our extensive range of other coatings and paints.

We can recommend a suitable primer for the surface you are painting, check compatibility with surfaces and other types of coating, or calculate the quantity of paint you will require. If you have a query, you can contact us through web chat, phone or email and we will help you as efficiently as possible.

As a manufacturer, we are also able to provide custom colours in most of our products, including our 1K Universal Satin. We are able to match to the RAL Classic, British Standard 4800 and 381C, and NCS 2050 charts. If you are not sure which colour will match an existing object, surface or paint, you can bring a sample to our shop, where we can help you find the perfect match.

For a multi surface primer suitable for most surface types, see Coo-Var Prime All.

Universal Satin Multi Surface Paint Application

Preparation: On previously painted surfaces, ensure it is sound and non-flaking. Abrade the surface preferably by mechanical abrasion to provide a “key” and maximise adhesion of the subsequent coating. For metal surfaces the standard grades of cleanliness for abrasive blast cleaning in accordance with BS EN ISO 8501-1[1] are:

  • Sa 1 – Light blast cleaning
  • Sa 2 – Thorough blast cleaning
  • Sa 2½ – Very thorough blast cleaning
  • Sa 3 – Blast cleaning to visually clean steel

Mixing: Stir the paint with a drill stirrer or wooden baton at least 2” wide. Continue to stir during application to avoid thickening of the product.

Application: Apply by brush, roller or spray and work well into the surface. Avoid applying the paint to thickly to avoid delaying drying times. The second and subsequent coats can be applied as soon as the first / preceding coat is dry usually after 12-24 hours, and should be applied within 5 days.

If more than 5 days elapse, the first coat should be lightly abraded before the second coat is applied. Avoid power washing the surface for 7 days.

Universal Satin Multi Purpose Paint is touch dry in 3 hours and hard dry in 24 hours. Once applied, leave for 16 hours before overcoating.

Expected Coverage: 12 to 14m² per litre

For thinning and cleaning, use white spirit.

Preparation

General Surfaces: Ensure the surface is sound and non-flaking. Abrade the surface (preferably using mechanical abrasion) to provide a “key” and maximize adhesion.

Metal Surfaces: Abrasive blast cleaning is recommended for the best results (standard grades Sa 1 to Sa 3 depending on the required cleanliness).

Mixing: Stir the paint thoroughly with a drill stirrer or a wooden baton at least 2 inches wide. Continue stirring during application to prevent the product from thickening.

Application

Methods: Apply by brush, roller, or spray. Work the paint well into the surface.

Technique: Avoid applying the paint too thickly, as this can delay drying times.

Coats:
* Second and subsequent coats can be applied as soon as the previous coat is dry (usually after 12–24 hours).
* Leave for at least 16 hours before overcoating.
* The second coat must be applied within 5 days. If more than 5 days pass, the first coat should be lightly abraded before applying the next coat.

Post-Application: Avoid power washing the painted surface for at least 7 days to allow it to fully cure.

Colours Available: Black, White, Magnolia, Anthracite Grey, and a wide range of tinted colours.

Pack Sizes: 1 Litre, 2.5 Litre, 5 Litre.
