Surface Condition: Ensure all surfaces are clean, dry, and free from loose or flaking material, dust, oil, and grease.
Previous Coatings: Rub down previously gloss-painted or varnished surfaces with fine waterproof abrasive paper and rinse thoroughly to ensure a good key.
Testing: Always carry out a test patch (approx. 100x100mm) before full application to ensure compatibility with previous coatings and to verify the final appearance.
Mixing: Mix the varnish thoroughly for approximately 2 minutes using a drill stirrer or a wooden batten (at least 25mm wide).
Environmental Conditions: Best results are obtained in warm (minimum 10°C), dry conditions. Avoid windy conditions, which can blow dust and grit into the wet surface.
Methods: Suitable for application by brush, roller, or spray.
* Brush/Roller: Apply an even coat using a brush or short-to-medium pile roller on smooth surfaces.
* Spray: For conventional or airless spray, a dilution ratio of no more than 10% by volume is recommended with Palatine White Spirit.
Coats: A minimum of two coats is recommended for maximum protection.
* If spraying, apply thin coats and allow each one to dry before applying subsequent coats.
* Once the first coat has dried, apply a second coat at full strength to prolong the life and performance of the coating.
Post-Application: Keep coated areas dry for a minimum of 24 hours following application.
Please note: The colours on the product listings are only given as a guide. This is due to the fact that every computer monitor has a different capability to display colours. In addition, everyone sees these colours differently. Sample pots are available to order upon request. Always carry out a test patch (approximately 100x100mm) before full application to ensure compatibility with previous coatings and the substrate, and to ensure the colour achieved meets your requirements. Failure to do so will result in a product refund claim not being accepted.

A: This is a high-quality, clear gloss varnish designed to provide a tough, flexible, and weather-resistant protective coating for all types of exterior woodwork.

A: Yes, the formula contains UV filters that help shield the wood from the damaging effects of sunlight, preventing the timber from fading and the varnish from becoming brittle.
Q: How does this varnish handle changing weather conditions?
A: It is formulated to be highly flexible, allowing the coating to expand and contract naturally with the wood as it gets hot or cold, which prevents the finish from cracking or peeling.
Q: Does it provide a shiny or a matte finish?

Q: How do I clean my brushes after using this varnish?

I have used the marine varnish on the external rubbing rails and cockpit of a South Coast One Design and found it has lasted far better than the Epifans yacht varnish or the Hempel Quick Drying yacht varnish, particularly for high wear areas.
