Product Description

Calcium Chloride Ice Melt is used to pre-treat paths and pavements before freezing occurs. This will effectively prevent ice from forming in the first place. It is viewed as one of the safest products for concrete because it de-ices at lower temperatures and faster than other alternatives.

It is also useful in treating areas where snow and ice has already occurred and will quickly go to work making paths and steps safer for all users. It does not leave a residue which would harm carpets when walked in. This makes it a great ice melting solution for homes, offices and businesses.

Preparation:

To ensure a durable and effective bilge paint application, it’s crucial to properly prepare the surface. Start by cleaning the substrate thoroughly to remove any dirt, grease, or oil. You can use a degreaser or mineral spirits for this step. Next, inspect the surface for any rust or old paint. If present, remove the rust using a wire brush, sandpaper, grinder or suitable rust remover / treatment. For old paint, use a paint stripper or sand it down until you reach the bare metal. Once the surface is clean and free of rust and old paint, sand it with fine-grit sandpaper to create a smooth and slightly roughened surface for better paint adhesion. Finally, wipe down the steel with a clean cloth to remove any dust or debris before applying our rust-inhibitive marine primer. After the primer has dried, you can proceed with applying our high build marine undercoat and then one but preferably two coats of the bilge paint.

Application:

Best results are obtained in warm (minimum 10°C), dry conditions.

Mix thoroughly for approximately 2 minutes using a drill stirrer. A wooden batten at least 25mm wide is also ideal.
Apply an even coat using a brush, short to medium pile roller on smooth surfaces.

For spray application by either airless or conventional spray a dilution ration of no more than 10% is recommended with Palatine White Spirit by volume.
A second coat can be applied at full strength. This will prolong the life and performance of the coating.
For application onto wooden surfaces, a minimum of two coats is recommended.
