General purpose varnish provides a tough, durable finish for interior use. Use over bare wood and previously painted, stained or varnished surfaces for a high gloss finish. General Purpose Varnish is suitable for application by brush, roller and airless or conventional spray. Check out our full range of varnishes here if you are unsure about the type of varnish you will need.
Surface Condition: Ensure the area is sound and properly prepared. It can be used over bare wood as well as previously painted, stained, or varnished surfaces.
Cleaning: Surfaces should be clean and dry. It is especially useful for restoring the appearance of weathered coatings.
Testing: It is always advisable to carry out a test patch (approx. 100x100mm) before full application to ensure compatibility with existing coatings and to confirm the final finish.
Environmental Conditions: Do not apply when the ambient temperature falls below 10°C. Best results are generally achieved in warm, dry conditions.
Method: Suitable for application by brush, roller, or spray (airless or conventional).
Layering: Can be used as a protective topcoat for both wood and metal.

Surface Dry: 2 hours
Hard Dry: 6 hours
Overcoat: after 16 hours. Keep coated areas dry for a minimum of 24 hours following application. Please note, drying times will be extended at low temperatures. Do not apply when ambient temperature falls below 10ºC.
Theoretical Coverage: 12 – 14m² per litre.
(Coverage rate can be affected by such variables as type and condition of substrate, type of application equipment and individual method of application.)
Thinning: Dilute 5-10% with White Spirit (not usually required for brush application).
Cleaning: Clean all equipment immediately after use with White Spirit.
If using more than one batch of the same colour, intermix before use.
