The colour swatches are an indication only and representative of the product applied to clean new/pale timber and rough sawn pine (2 coats). The final colour finish can vary considerably due to the age, type & condition of the timber being treated and will darken with multiple coats. Viewing colours on multiple digital screens can vary considerably and may not be totally accurate. We always recommend carrying out a small inconspicuous test area first. It is the Customer/end users responsibility to satisfy themselves that the colour finish is correct before full application.
Smooth Pine (2 coats)

Rough Pine (2 coats)

While Barrettine premier wood preserver is available in seven UV fade resistant colours, it can also be overcoated for aesthetic purposes or for added protection, with suitable paints and wood oils.
NOTE: Before overcoating, allow the wood to fully ‘weather’ after applying the preservative. This is especially important for water based paints as the wax contained in the preserver will repel the water and prevent adherence of the paint. The ‘weathering’ process can take several months.
If you are looking to refresh previously treated wood, take a look at Barrettine’s wood protective treatment.
| Wood Preserver | Universal Preserver | Protective Treatment |
| (The Preserver) | (The Primer) | (The Sealer) |

How to apply
Prep: Ensure the wood is dry and free from dirt and any repellent coatings (e.g., paint/varnish). Remove coatings and sand as required.
Optional pre-clean: Use a biocidal wash (e.g., Barrettine Knockout Mould and Mildew) before treatment.
Application methods: Brush, dip, roller, or airless spray (minimum 1mm flat fan tip nozzle, 9–11 thou tip). Not suitable for a pump-action garden sprayer.
Coats: Best results typically with 2–3 coats.
Overcoating note: If overcoating (especially with water-based paints), allow the wood to fully “weather” after preserving — this can take several months due to wax content repelling water-based coatings.
Drying/recoat: 12 hours under normal conditions (20°C / 65% RH).
Clean equipment with Palatine White Spirit.
Always read the label. Use biocides safely.
Contains Permethrin, Tebuconazole & IPBC.
Protects uncontaminated timber against wet rot, decay and wood boring insect attack.
Mainly for external applications but some Internal. (refer to internal and external information on the back of the tin/container).
Approved under COPR/BPR
Harmless to plants and pets when dry.

Q: What is wood preserver used for?
A: Barrettine Wood Preserver is a specialized treatment designed to prevent and control wood-destroying organisms. It penetrates deep into the timber to protect against wet rot, wood discolouring fungi, and wood-boring insects.
Q: Is it suitable for exterior timber?
A: Yes, this formula is specifically engineered for exterior use. It contains high quality waxes and resins that provide excellent water repellency for garden sheds, fences, and other outdoor structures.
Q: How many coats do I need?
A: For maximum protection and the best finish, you should apply 2–3 thin coats. Always follow the direction of the grain for even penetration.
Q: How long does it take to dry?
A: The product is typically touch-dry in 6–12 hours. However, we recommend allowing a full 24 hours between coats to ensure the previous layer has fully settled.
Q: Can I paint over it?
A: Generally, no. Because this specific product contains high levels of wax for water repellency, most paints and stains will not adhere to it. If you plan to paint or varnish over the treatment, use Barrettine Universal Wood Preserver instead. If the surface is fully ‘weathered’ and the surface no longer showing water beading
Q: Is it safe for treated timber?
A: Yes, it is perfectly safe to use on previously pressure-treated (tanalised) timber. It helps refresh the colour and adds a vital extra layer of moisture protection.
Q: Do you deliver quickly?
A: At Palatine Paints, we prioritize rapid dispatch for all Barrettine products to ensure your timber protection project can start without delay.
Q: What’s the difference between preserver and protector treatment?
A: The main difference is the active ingredients. A Wood Preserver contains biocides to kill rot and insects. A Protector Treatment is typically a non-biocidal sealer used primarily for water repellency on wood that is already chemically preserved

I ordered Barrettine wood protective treatment as needed to finish my large shed.
I had already done porch, summerhouse and small shed.
I was told it may be a long wait but this I was prepared to do. I was surprised to receive it after a few days.
It went on very well, nice to use and very pleased with the colour red cedar.
