Product Description

Alkalinity Reducer is used primarily to reduce the pH level of alkaline substances in swimming pool or spa water. If an Alkaline Reducer isn’t used in high pH water then problems such as cloudy water and scaling of surfaces, including pipework will occur.

Ensuring the correct water balance is maintained is important for a number of factors:

  • Protection of the pool/spa water
  • Water appearance and quality
  • Chemical efficiency
  • User comfort

This product comes in 25 litres, if you require a large amount or have any other queries relating to this product, please contact us.

Preparation

Testing: Use a water testing kit to check current alkalinity levels before starting.

Circulation Check: Ensure the pool or spa pump and filtration system are running and fully operational to facilitate even chemical distribution.

Safety: Since this is a hazardous chemical, wear appropriate protective gear (gloves/eye protection) and avoid mixing with any other chemicals before addition.

Application

Addition Method: Add the liquid directly to the water.

Target Area: For the best results and most even distribution, pour the product into the deepest part of the pool or near the return inlets.

Pump Operation: Keep the pump running throughout the process to help the chemical disperse properly.

Post-Treatment Testing: Wait for the product to fully circulate (typically a few hours) before retesting the water.

Usage Safety: Do not allow swimmers back into the water until you have retested and confirmed that the alkalinity levels have returned to the recommended range.

pH Monitoring: Be aware that this treatment may also lower the pH of the water, so monitor and adjust pH levels separately if needed after the alkalinity has stabilized.

Colours Available: Colourless to pale yellow liquid.

Pack Sizes: 5 Litre, 20 Litre, and 25 Litre.

Coverage / Drying Times

Surface Dry: Not applicable (Chemical water treatment).

Hard Dry: Not applicable (The product typically takes a few hours to fully disperse throughout the water system with the pump running).

Overcoat: Not applicable (Safe for swimmers once the water has been retested and confirmed to be within the recommended range, usually after 2–4 hours of circulation).

Theoretical Coverage: Dosage depends on current alkalinity readings. As a general guide, 500ml will reduce the total alkalinity of 50,000 litres of water by approximately 10ppm (parts per million).

Thinning and Cleaning

Thinning: Not required. Add the product directly to the pool/spa water, ideally in the deepest part or near the return inlets to ensure even distribution.

Cleaning: Wash any spills or equipment (measuring jugs/cups) thoroughly with large amounts of clean water.

Product Documents

Q: What is Alkalinity Reducer used for?
A: Alkalinity Reducer is a chemical treatment designed to lower the total alkalinity levels in swimming pools, spas, and hot tubs. Proper alkalinity helps maintain water balance and ensures the effectiveness of other pool chemicals.

Q: Why is it important to control alkalinity in my pool or spa?
A: Maintaining the correct alkalinity level prevents fluctuations in pH, reduces the risk of scale formation, and helps protect pool equipment and surfaces from damage. It also ensures that sanitising chemicals work effectively.

Q: How much Alkalinity Reducer should I use?
A: The amount required depends on the current alkalinity reading and the volume of water in your pool or spa. Always refer to the dosage chart on the packaging or consult with us for specific guidance.

Q: How soon can I use the pool after adding Alkalinity Reducer?
A: You can generally use the pool or spa once the product has fully dispersed and the water has been retested to confirm that alkalinity levels are within the recommended range. This usually takes a few hours with the pump running.

Q: Will Alkalinity Reducer affect the pH of my pool water?
A: Alkalinity Reducer can lower both total alkalinity and, to a lesser extent, pH. It is important to monitor and adjust pH levels as needed after treatment.

Q: Is Alkalinity Reducer safe for all types of pools and spas?
A: Yes, it is suitable for use in most types of pools and spas, including those with liners, tiles, or fibreglass surfaces. Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions for best results.
