Product Description

2K DTM metal cladding paint is a 2 pack direct to metal paint designed for use on metal cladding sheets. The paint provides a durable gloss finish with high resistance to weathering, making it ideal for outdoor use.

Special corrosion inhibitors give the coating very high anti corrosion properties, with the coating tested to 400 hours salt fog.

2K DTM Metal Cladding Paint is a 2 part system supplied as a base and activator, with both parts included in the price.

Please note: The colours shown are a guide. This is due to the fact that every computer monitor has a different capability to display colours. In addition, everyone sees these colours differently.

Preparation

Proper preparation is the most important step for ensuring the long-term adhesion of this 2-part chemical coating.

Substrate Inspection: Ensure the cladding is sound. Any previous coatings that are peeling or failing must be completely removed back to a firm edge.

De-greasing: Use an industrial degreaser to remove all traces of oil, bird droppings, or atmospheric pollution. For large areas of cladding, pressure washing with a cleaning solution is recommended, followed by a thorough rinse with clean water.

Corrosion Treatment: Any areas of active rust or “cut-edge corrosion” must be mechanically cleaned (wire brushed or sanded) back to bright metal.

Abrasion: Even though this is a “Direct to Metal” product, smooth or exceptionally shiny surfaces (like new galvanised metal or plastisol coatings) should be lightly abraded with a fine abrasive pad to provide a mechanical “key” for the paint to grip.

Drying: The surface must be 100% dry. Cladding often traps moisture in the overlaps and fixings; ensure these are completely dry before you begin painting.

Application

This product requires a chemical reaction between the base and activator to cure properly.

Initial Mixing: Stir the base paint on its own for 2 minutes using a mechanical drill stirrer to ensure all pigments and anti-corrosive additives are fully redistributed.

The 2-Part Mix: Pour the entire contents of the activator into the base tin. Mix again mechanically for 2–3 minutes until the liquid is completely homogenous.

Thinning: Only use T51 Thinners. Add 5–10% thinners after the base and activator have been mixed together. Do not use standard white spirit or cellulose thinners, as they will prevent the paint from curing.

Spray Setup:
* Airless Spray: Recommended for large cladding areas for a uniform finish. Ensure you maintain a consistent distance from the surface to avoid “dry spray” or runs.
* Conventional Spray: Adjust your pressure and thinning to achieve a smooth gloss flow.

Pot Life Management: Once mixed, you have a limited window to use the paint (typically around 4 hours at 20°C). Only mix what you can realistically apply in one session.

Environmental Check: Avoid application if the temperature is below 10°C or if there is a risk of rain or heavy dew before the paint reaches its “Dust Free” state (approx. 30 mins).

The Overcoating Window: If a second coat is required, apply it between 4 and 96 hours. If you wait longer than 96 hours, the first coat will have “hard cured” and must be lightly sanded before the second coat will bond to it.

Colours Available: Anthracite Grey, Graphite Grey, Mahogany Brown, Signal Grey, Slate Grey, and Black. Also available in a wide range of RAL Classic and British Standard (BS 4800 & BS 381C) colours upon request.

Pack Sizes: 5 Litre (Supplied as a 2-part system consisting of the base paint and the required activator/hardener).

Coverage / Drying Times

Surface Dry: 20 – 30 minutes (Dust free)

Hard Dry: 24 hours (Through dry); Full cure reached in 14 days.

Overcoat: 4 hours minimum to 96 hours maximum. (Note: Surface must be abraded/sanded if the 96-hour window is exceeded).

Theoretical Coverage: Approximately 9m² per litre (at 50 microns Dry Film Thickness).

Thinning and Cleaning

Thinning: Dilute 5-10% with T51 Thinners.

Cleaning: Clean all equipment immediately after use with T51 Thinners.

Please Note: If using more than one batch of the same colour, intermix before use.

Q: What is 2K DTM Metal Cladding Paint Gloss?
A: It’s a two-pack (2K) direct-to-metal (DTM) coating designed specifically for metal cladding sheets, giving a durable gloss finish with high resistance to weathering for outdoor use.

Q: Do I need a primer first?
A: This is a direct-to-metal system, meaning it’s designed to go straight onto metal cladding (when the surface is properly prepared). It’s supplied as a 2-part base + activator system.

Q: How tough is it against corrosion and weather?
A: It contains special corrosion inhibitors for very high anti-corrosion performance, and the coating has been tested to 400 hours salt fog. It’s also designed to resist weathering, making it suitable for exterior exposure.

Q: What do I get in the 5L pack?
A: You receive a 2-part system: the base and activator, with both parts included in the price (so you’re not buying the hardener separately).

Q: Will the colour look exactly like it does on my screen?
A: Colours shown online are a guide only. Screen settings vary between monitors, and people perceive colour differently—so the on-screen colour may not be an exact match in real life.
