Surface Condition: Surfaces must be dry and free from dirt, grease, wax, and loose or flaking materials.
Bare Concrete: For optimum performance, use Palatine Pliocem Concrete Sealer first. Alternatively, thin the first coat of Pond Paint with 10–20% Palatine Multi-Purpose Thinners to act as a binding primer.
Bare Mild Steel: Can be applied directly, but for maximum life span, use Palatine Fast Dry Metal Primer first.
Galvanised Steel: Treat with a Mordant solution (T-Wash) before painting.
Existing Paint: Test a small area for a solvent reaction (softening or lifting) before full application.
Environmental Conditions: Do not apply in temperatures below 10°C.
Mixing: Stir well before use. If using multiple batches of the same colour, intermix them first to ensure a uniform finish.
Method: Apply by brush or solvent-resistant roller.
Coats: A minimum of 2–3 coats is recommended for full waterproofing.
Thinning: Only thin the first coat on absorbent surfaces (up to 10% with Palatine Multi Purpose Thinners). Do not thin subsequent coats.
Thickness: Avoid applying the paint too thickly, as this can trap solvents and delay the curing process.
Overcoating Window: Re-coat after 24 hours but within 7 days. If more than 7 days pass, the first coat must be lightly abraded (sanded) to ensure the next coat adheres properly.
Initial Dry: Keep the area completely dry for at least 24 hours after the final application.
Full Cure: Wait 7 days after the final coat before washing the surface or filling the pond with water.
Safety: Once fully dried and cured (after the 7-day period), the paint is fish-friendly and safe for aquatic life.
Please note: The colours on the product listings are only given as a guide. This is due to the fact that every computer monitor has a different capability to display colours. In addition, everyone sees these colours differently. Sample pots are available to order upon request. Always carry out a test patch (approximately 100x100mm) before full application to ensure compatibility with previous coatings and the substrate, and to ensure the colour achieved meets your requirements. Failure to do so will result in a product refund claim not being accepted.
