Carbotread Exterior Floor Paint is a polyurethane floor coating designed for use on outdoor concrete, metal and wood surfaces. It provides a durable satin finish to the floor that is resistant to the effects of weather and sunlight. The paint also protects the floor from long term wear caused by everyday foot traffic.
Our exterior floor paint is ideal for marking or highlighting areas such as steps, ramps, doorway and walkways, with bright safety colours available for changes in elevation that may create a trip hazard. We also have greys and greens available for a more decorative and understated look.
If the colours on this page don’t fit your requirements or preference, we also provide a custom colour tinting service. For more details and prices on this, please contact us and we can help you find the colour for your floor.
If you have any questions about this paint, or any of our other products, please contact us using our web chat service, or by phone or email. Our team will be happy to help with any queries you may have, with our knowledge as a manufacturer allowing us to provide in depth technical information on our products.
For areas exposed to rain that may become slippery when wet, we also provide an anti-slip exterior floor paint, available in the same range of colours and sizes. If you have an interior concrete floor to paint, try our interior Carbotread floor paint.
Preparation: On previously painted surfaces, ensure it is sound and non-flaking. Abrade the surface preferably by mechanical abrasion to provide a “key” and maximise adhesion of the subsequent coating. For porous unpainted mature concrete, firstly apply a coat of Pliocem Concrete Sealer.
For a more economical approach on porous surfaces, thin the first coat of Floor Paint with 10-15% of White Spirit and one neat coat. For wood, apply a clear universal preservative to untreated timber. For metal, prime with Palatine Anti Corrosive Metal Primer.
Mixing: Stir the paint with a drill stirrer or wooden baton at least 2” wide. Continue to stir during application to avoid thickening of the product.
Application: Apply by brush, roller or spray and work well into the surface. Avoid applying the paint to thickly to avoid delaying drying times. The second and subsequent coats can be applied as soon as the first / preceding coat is dry usually after 12-24 hours, and should be applied within 5 days.
If more than 5 days elapse, the first coat should be lightly abraded before the second coat is applied. Avoid power washing the surface for 7 days.
Carbotread Exterior Floor Paint is touch dry in 3 hours and hard dry in 24 hours, with an expected coverage of 12 – 14m² per litre. For thinning and cleaning, use white spirit.
For full technical, safety and application details, please see the data sheets.
Please note: The colours on the product listings are only given as a guide. This is due to the fact that every computer monitor has a different capability to display colours. In addition, everyone sees these colours differently.
General: Ensure the surface is sound and free from any flaking material.
Previously Painted Surfaces: Abrade the surface (preferably using mechanical abrasion) to create a “key” for maximum adhesion.
Concrete (Porous/Unpainted): * Apply a coat of Pliocem Concrete Sealer first.
* Alternatively, thin the first coat of the floor paint with 10-15% White Spirit to act as a sealer.
Wood: Apply a clear universal preservative to untreated timber before painting.
Metal: Prime with Palatine Anti-Corrosive Metal Primer.
Mixing: Stir thoroughly with a drill stirrer or a wooden baton (at least 2” wide). Continue to stir during application to prevent the product from thickening.
Methods: Apply by brush, roller, or spray. Work the paint well into the surface.
Coating: * Avoid applying too thickly, as this can delay drying.
* Apply the second and subsequent coats once the preceding coat is dry.
* Crucial: Subsequent coats should be applied within 5 days. If more than 5 days pass, you must lightly abrade the first coat before applying the next.
Post-Application: Avoid power washing the surface for at least 7 days after painting.
Colours Available: 11 stock colours are available, including: Light Grey, Mid Grey, Admiralty Grey, Tile Red, Light Brunswick Green, Dark Green, Safety Red, Safety Yellow, Mid Blue, Black, and White. Custom colour matching to RAL Classic, BS 4800, and BS 381C is also available.
