Q: What does Barrettine Woodworm Killer treat, and when should I use it?
A: Barrettine Woodworm Killer is used to treat and help prevent common wood-boring insect infestations in timber (often referred to as “woodworm”). Use it when you see signs such as small, round exit holes, fine dust (frass), or weakened timber—especially in lofts, floorboards, joists, roof timbers, and furniture. For best results, identify the likely source timber, treat all affected and adjacent areas, and address any damp conditions that may be contributing to timber vulnerability.
Q: How do I apply Barrettine Woodworm Killer for best results?
A: For effective treatment, apply to clean, bare timber so the product can penetrate properly. Brush, spray, or inject into the timber depending on access and severity (injection is often used for thicker structural timbers). Pay extra attention to end grain, cracks, joints, and areas around exit holes. Treat all sides where possible and follow the label guidance on coverage rates, drying times, and whether a second coat is recommended. If the timber is painted, varnished, or sealed, you may need to remove coatings or use an appropriate method (such as injection) to ensure the treatment reaches the timber.
Q: Is Barrettine Woodworm Killer safe to use indoors, and what precautions should I take?
A: It can be used indoors, but you should follow the product label and safety data guidance closely. Ensure good ventilation during application and drying, wear suitable PPE (typically gloves and eye/face protection), and keep people and pets away until treated areas are fully dry and the space is ventilated. Avoid applying directly onto surfaces that will be in frequent skin contact, and take care around soft furnishings and food preparation areas. If you’re treating structural timbers or a widespread infestation, it’s also worth confirming the cause (including moisture issues) and considering professional assessment.
