The best primer for this paint would depend on the type of garage door. For metal garage doors, we would recommend Carboxide Metal Primer. For wooden doors, Carboxide All Purpose Primer would be an ideal primer to use.
Touch dry in 2 hours and hard dry in 8 hours. Leave 24 hours before overcoating.
Estimated Coverage: 12 to 14sqm per litre
Surface Condition: Ensure previously painted surfaces are sound and non-flaking.
Abrasion: Abrade the surface (preferably using mechanical abrasion) to create a “key,” which maximises the adhesion of the paint.
Priming:
* Bare Metal: Apply Carboxide Metal Primer.
* Wood: Apply Carboxide All Purpose Primer.
* Pitted or High Colour Variation: If the surface is pitted or you are making a significant colour change, use Carboxide All Purpose Primer Undercoat.
Mixing: Stir the paint thoroughly with a drill stirrer or a wooden baton at least 2” wide. Continue to stir occasionally during application.
Testing: Always perform a test patch (approx. 100x100mm) to ensure compatibility with previous coatings and to confirm the colour.
Methods: Can be applied by brush, roller, airless spray, or conventional spray.
* Roller: Use a solvent-resistant sleeve.
* Airless Spray: Use a 0.017″ -0.021″ tip at 1800-2000 psi.
Technique: Apply a nice, even coat. Use a brush for cutting in. Avoid applying the paint too thickly, as excessive film thickness can cause drying problems.
Second Coat: Apply the second coat once the first is hard dry (typically 6–24 hours). Ideally, apply the second coat within 5 days. If more than 5 days pass, you must lightly abrade the first coat before applying the second.
Curing & Aftercare: Keep the coated area dry for at least 24 hours after application. Avoid washing the painted surface for 7 days.
Environmental Conditions: Do not apply if the ambient temperature is below 10ºC. Drying times will be extended in lower temperatures.
Please note: The colours on the product listings are only given as a guide. This is due to the fact that every computer monitor has a different capability to display colours. In addition, everyone sees these colours differently. Sample pots are available to order upon request. Always carry out a test patch (approximately 100x100mm) before full application to ensure compatibility with previous coatings and the substrate, and to ensure the colour achieved meets your requirements. Failure to do so will result in a product refund claim not being accepted.
