Carbosol Grey Oxide Primer Aerosol Spray is a quick drying and easy to apply grey oxide primer in 400ml aerosol spray can. One of our top selling primers, Grey Oxide Primer is now available in this aerosol spray format, allowing you to complete smaller jobs quickly and efficiently. The spray format is also ideal for accessing hard to reach areas, giving a protective layer over which to apply a topcoat.
This superior quality grey oxide primer spray is perfect for use on ferrous metal, wood and other surfaces. Creates a rust inhibiting layer to give protection and a smooth surface, ready for application of a topcoat.
As it’s easily applied and surface dry in 15 minutes, this grey metal primer spray is a solid, practical choice for steel/iron surfaces and in addition is useful for smoothing and preparing other surfaces such as wood.
Grey primer aerosol is a good alternative to red when using certain top coat colours.
For larger areas or for application by brush, roller or spray gun, take a look at our grey oxide primer in 500ml, 1L, 2.5L, 5L and 20L. Other items in our Carbosol range include: satin, matt and gloss finish aerosols and spray yacht varnish.
Please note: Due to printing limitations, the colour may vary from the cap and can colour.

Surface State: Ensure all surfaces are clean, dry, and completely free from rust, grease, and other contaminants.
Safety & Protection: Work in a well-ventilated area. Mask off any surrounding areas to protect against overspray.
Agitation: Shake the can vigorously for 2–3 minutes until the agitator ball moves freely. Continue to shake occasionally during use.
Technique: Hold the can 6–8 inches (15–20 cm) from the surface.

Q: What is Carbosol Grey PrimeSpray?
A: It is a quick-drying grey oxide primer in a 400ml aerosol can. It is designed to provide a rust-inhibiting protective layer and a smooth surface, making it ready for a final topcoat.
Q: Where can I use this primer?
A: It is ideal for use on ferrous metals (like iron and steel), wood, and previously painted surfaces. It is commonly used for steelwork, railings, pipes, and small DIY tasks.
Q: Why would I choose grey over other primer colours?
A: Grey primer is a very practical choice because it is a neutral base. It is a great alternative to red oxide primer when you are planning to use certain topcoat colours that might be hard to cover otherwise.
Q: What are the main benefits of the aerosol spray format?
A: The spray format makes it very easy to reach difficult or awkward areas that a brush can’t get into. It is also perfect for smaller jobs where you want to work quickly and avoid the mess of traditional paint tins.
Q: What should I do when I am finished?
A: To prevent the nozzle from blocking, turn the can upside down and spray for a second or two. This clears the valve so the primer doesn’t dry inside.
