Product Description

An anti-corrosive primer designed for use on iron and steel machinery and plant equipment. It provides long term protection from rust and is designed for use before applying Palatine Plant & Machinery Paint.

This primer can be ordered in grey, red or white. You can choose the colour that best matches your topcoat colour to ensure the primer is fully covered by the next coat.

Preparation

Surface Condition: Ensure the area is free from dust, oil, grease, old coatings, and surface contaminants. Proper degreasing and rust removal are essential for optimal performance.

Ferrous Metals: Designed specifically for use on iron and steel machinery and plant equipment.

Non-Ferrous Metals: For materials like aluminium, use Etching Primer instead.

Wood: Can be used on wooden surfaces; a minimum of two coats is recommended.

Previously Painted Surfaces: Rub down old gloss-painted surfaces with fine waterproof abrasive paper and rinse thoroughly to ensure a good bond.

Testing: Always carry out a test patch (approx. 100mm x 100mm) before full application to check for compatibility with previous coatings and the substrate.

Application

Mixing: Stir thoroughly for approximately 2 minutes before use. A drill stirrer or a wooden batten (at least 25mm wide) is recommended.

Method: Apply an even coat using a brush or roller. Use a short-to-medium pile roller for smooth surfaces and a long pile roller for textured surfaces.

Spray Application: Dilute by no more than 15% by volume with Palatine White Spirit for use with airless or conventional spray equipment.

Coating System: A second coat at full strength is recommended to prolong the life and performance of the coating.

Conditions: For best results, apply in warm (minimum 10°C) and dry conditions.

Please note: The colours on the product listings are only given as a guide. This is due to the fact that every computer monitor has a different capability to display colours. In addition, everyone sees these colours differently. Sample pots are available to order upon request. Always carry out a test patch (approximately 100x100mm) before full application to ensure compatibility with previous coatings and the substrate, and to ensure the colour achieved meets your requirements. Failure to do so will result in a product refund claim not being accepted.

Theoretical Coverage: 12 – 14m² per litre.

(Coverage rate can be affected by such variables as type and condition of substrate, type of application equipment and individual method of application.)

Thinning and Cleaning

Thinning: Dilute up to 15% with Palatine White Spirit (specifically for spray application).
